"In wildness is the preservation of the world." - Henry David Thoreau

This spring and summer!

Artist Eye Workshops, on Edisto Island, one hour south of Charleston, South Carolina.

When times get tough throughout the world, people are in distress over wars, hurricanes, destruction and chaos. What do they turn to for their relief? Art is always the answer. Whether an artist composes a song, writes a book or paints a painting, artistic expression is the balm that soothes all ailments.

Edisto Island is a place of unparalleled natural beauty. The sixteen mile road to the sea is a newly designated National Scenic Byway, and the island provides the balm for what urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs called "the great grey blight of dullness."

"There is nothing boring on this hilltop" someone said once about Penland School in the North Carolina mountains where I took graduate courses in Book Arts. Nothing boring on this island I would counter! Edisto is an undeveloped barrier island, the last of her kind in South Carolina, and one of the great Sea Islands, full of history and fisherman and the descendants of slaves and those who owned them. The Gullah legacy is palpable. The natural beauty is unparalleled.

Soon, I will be offering weekend, and weeklong retreats for artists.

Classes are forming. Contact me now for details.
