Oil on Canvas

1999      24"x36"

The Peacock Family is named in honor of Flannery O'Connor, the great Southern writer, who raised "Peafowl" . This painting is about not being heard in my family, and was taken from an original postcard black and white family portait of a family whose names I do not know. I painted the painting with everyone dressed, took a walk, came back and painted the red-headed woman's clothes off. An Alice Neel drawing, too, was inspiration.
