Ozzie, Harriet, & Robert, oil on canvas, 24"x30", yr painted 2000.

Ozzie & Harriet’s family was the perfect one we were all supposed to have in the 50’s. Mine was a reality more like Pat Conroy’s. Robert symbolizes the incongruity, but also the strong influence of African Americans in my own family. The image of ‘Robert’ is from a wonderful old black and white photo from the 40’s. It was named that because I was painting this to the music of the great blues musician, Robert Johnson, and looked down at the cover of the CD to find an exact twin of the man I was painting, hat and all.
